Business Registrations, Licenses & Permits

All new and relocated businesses operating within the Town limits must be registered or licensed with the Town prior to opening; this also includes home businesses. Business registration and license applications are processed at the Community Development Department, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, at the 2nd floor of the City Hall Annex Building.

Who Needs a License?


Sec. 10-20. - Duty to register businesses and obtain business license

Any person, natural or otherwise, who does business within the town shall obtain a business license from the department of community development prior to engaging in said business. Further, any person, natural or otherwise, who maintains a fixed business location within the town shall, in addition to obtaining a business license, register its business on form(s) provided by the director of community development, except that no fees additional to the fees paid for the issuance of the business license shall be paid for business registration. Once issued, the business license and business registration shall be prominently displayed on the premises of the business and any branches thereof.

Further licensing requirements / fees are specified for particular business proprietors such as: 

  • Auctioneers
  • Circuses/Carnivals
  • Gasoline/Diesel/Propane Filling Stations
  • Pawnbrokers
  • Recyclers
  • Second-Hand Dealers
  • Wholesale Gasoline/Propane/and Oil Dealers
  • Wrestling or Boxing/Theatrical or other Public Exhibitions

Fees

The annual registration fee is $35 for business registrations and some licenses. Other fees may vary for licenses according to Town of Silver City Ordinances. A commercial site plan review may be required with the approval of the Town’s Community Development Director prior to registering or licensing new commercial businesses. In addition, a $25 fee for inspection by the Town’s Fire Marshal may also be required prior to the issuance of the business registration or license.

Business Registration Renewals

The business registration or license period is one calendar year. The annual business registration or license fee is billed in December for the following New Year and should be paid from March 15 to April 15 at City Hall or a penalty of 10% of the license fee will be assessed for late filing.
